Code Camp by The Red Sunflower is a four-day event that inspires people to build a website and learn to code.
Charleston South Carolina has a booming tech scene, but a shortage of local tech talent. Code Camp scholarships help local businesses build relationships with motivated and talented students interested in STEM fields.
The Hispanic Business Association awarded a full scholarship to Code Camp by Red Sunflower in 2019.
The Hispanic Business Association (HBA) is a non-profit organization that supports Hispanic entrepreneurs and business owners. HBA is committed to empowering their community through education and resources.
The HBA asked its members to find a curious and creative student to send to Code Camp. Scholarship applicants submitted their best website ideas to HBA’s Board of Directors.
The HBA Board awarded the scholarship to Mia, 13. Mia wanted to build a website to serve as a resource for Autistic children. After the award ceremony, Mia said that her website idea was inspired by her brothers.
