Starting a new website is exciting! One of the first decisions you make as a new website owner is what to call it.

Your website’s name is called it’s domain name. This website’s domain name is theRedSunflower.com. When you purchase a new domain name you must register your information in ICANN‘s WHOIS database. The WHOIS database is a public database of contact information registered to a domain including the registrant’s name, address, email, and phone number. You may not want your private contact information publicly available. When you purchase your domain name through Red Sunflower we register your domain with the company’s corporate contact information, protecting you from spam and other forms of harassment. You retain full ownership of the domain. For more information about domain names, contact us.

Registering a domain name is just the first step of starting a website. If you want people to be able to visit your website, you will need a host.

A host makes your website files available on the internet. Red Sunflower websites are hosted with Bluehost. As your host, Red Sunflower will monitor the performance of your website and ensure that it stays online. We will also install WordPress and provide troubleshooting and support if your website is having technical problems. If your domain was purchased with another provider, Red Sunflower can still provide hosting by updating your domain’s Domain Name System (DNS) record. The DNS record tells a computer how to locate a website. Red Sunflower can host your website on our servers by changing the Nameservers on your domain’s account.

Whether you would like to build your own website or have Red Sunflower create it for you, you’ll need a domain and hosting.
